The Westminster Catechism begins with this question: What is the chief end of man? The answer is: The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

A Christian who understands that his "chief end" (or main purpose in life) is to glorify God, and who is serious and earnest about doing so, will immediately ask upon reading the first question and answer in the Westminster Catechism, "how may I do this?" He or she wants to know, practically speaking, how to glorify God with his or her life, and how to enjoy Him forever.

In this handbook I am seeking to be of practical help to those who really want to know how to glorify and enjoy God in their lives, thereby fulfilling their chief end.

Many of the truths presented here are taken from a book by the Puritan, Thomas Watson, called, A Body of Divinity. My desire is not to plagiarize the writing, but rather to update the old English writing style and to modernize and expound on the thoughts and concepts of the book, and finally to assist in the learning of the material by providing questions. These questions may be used either for personal learning or for group discussion (answers may be easily sent through email). A copy of the original book, A Body of Divinity, may be purchased here. You may also read a memoir of the author, Thomas Watson, written by Charles Spurgeon here.
