In His Image Testimony: Mary

I have struggled with an eating disorder on and off for over 15 years. Through a strange series of events, God led me to the Setting Captives Free website and I am so thankful he did! This is where I was able to see how to finally be free from this sin that has entangled me for so long! What I saw in this course, that what I had always seen as a "disease" was really sin! I was giving over to my flesh and sinning through my eating. I was living in my flesh instead of dying to myself and living in the spirit. I saw my sin for the first time as truly that and saw how badly I needed Jesus and his freedom. My sin had brought me darkness, deepest gloom, captivity and I was a prisoner in my own flesh. God spoke so clearly to me through this study. I was able to see that I had been living for my own glory through my body and diets I had tried etc. I was seeking my desires and my will daily. He redirected my focus showing me that the answer is Jesus. I am to live for Him - seeking His glory and dying to myself daily. It is about a relationship with Him and seeking Him to fill me up instead of food. One of my favorite verses in this study was All mans efforts are for his mouth yet His appetite is never satisfied. This summed up my life. All my energies were for myself, my body and worshipping the idol of food. Instead He led me to the verse Unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. This was so true - I had NO life in me! But I do in Jesus. Today I am enjoying a freedom that I have never had before. I am able to walk in victory and freedom when I submit and obey Him by focusing on Him and His desires for my life. He is the answer and He has changed my life. He has completely delivered me from purging and I am getting there with binging. I have freedom in Him in this moment and am truly thankful for that! God is an awesome God and I am glad He saved me!
