Day 1 - Part 2
See, this passage teaches that a purchase was made, a purchase of a very high price. What Paul (the author of 1 Corinthians) is talking about is that Jesus Christ died on the cross in order to buy you and take you to be His very own. The "price" He paid was His own life’s blood. He died on the cross to forgive your sins and to make you His own; to make your body to be His temple where He lives.
That’s right! We are to "honor God with our bodies" because Jesus suffered and died for us to make us His. This passage teaches us that the effect of the cross, the end result of the cross, is that people would honor God with their bodies; that is, with their lives on this earth.
Course member Melissa explains what this verse meant to her:

With this verse I saw that God actually paid a high price for my body. It wasn’t any price man would pay these days for a flashy car or house, no, it was his Son’s own life, that is how much he paid for my body. God enabled me to see just how much my body meant and how valuable it was to God and therefore I truly realized that self-harm was wrong, something I never understood before getting this verse. I had heard this verse a million times over ...
