Day 2 - Part 2
Next, notice 1 Corinthians 10:31:
The above scripture says "do all for the Glory of God", and of course that includes the way we treat our bodies.
We must make the connection that turning away from the sin of self harm by God’s grace is in fact honoring to the Lord. Indeed, He is glorified in the daily choices we make to turn away from gratifying our flesh by any form of self harm thoughts or actions. Now, this is not to say that all who respond to life’s challenges are doing so in a way that is glorifying to God. Obviously, such is not the case, as there are many people who do not self harm that are living their lives for their own glory. But, it is to say that the motivation for the Christian must be to honor the Lord in everything, including how we think, how we act, and how we care for our bodies.
We should be able to say with the Psalmist in Psalm 115:1:
But to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy,
Because of Your truth.
Now, as I have said, there is real hope for freedom from self-harm, when our motive is the glory of God. There is, indeed, real hope for freedom from any type of issue, whether it is escape, self-punishment or self-harming thoughts. If we begin to focus on the glory of God, we begin to change from the inside out. Let's look at the Bible together.
