So many of us have come to The Lord's Table Bible study course because we were struggling with our weight. Our goal with these lessons for children is to reach them early so they won't go into bondage to food the way we did. Scripture tells us to "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. " (Proverbs 22:6). These lessons are designed for children ages seven to twelve.
Each day your children will be presented with a lesson that will challenge them to focus on the Lord and take good care of their bodies for His glory. There will be accountability questions each day about Bible reading, discipline, and exercise. This course is not meant to have children go on any "diet". Instead, it will remind them to stop eating when they are full and to eat in a way which honors Christ. Exercise will be encouraged so that they don't spend too much time watching TV or playing video games. And most importantly, reading scripture everyday will be encouraged, as well.
We hope you will work with your children and encourage them everyday by discussing these lessons with them and stressing how much we need the Lord in our lives. Jesus said, "'Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.'" (Matthew 19: 14) We also hope that you will encourage good eating habits and lots of playtime that will get them to exercise their bodies.
Dear Mr. Hoover,
My name is Price Baker, and I recently finished the Lord's Table for children. I thought I should write to you to tell you some of my strengths. I have noticed that without my mom reminding me, and without thinking about it, I have not gotten 2nds. That just shows God's infinite power. I'm sure that if it were not for God that I would naturally go up for 2nds.
I have realized that when I get hungry all I can think about is thoughts like, when's dinner? Or please give me something to eat. But with the grace of God I can overcome this struggle in my life.
One verse that has been helpful to me is Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." I pray that because of doing this study that I will not really worry about how much I weigh, but do it for God's glory.
May these lessons draw you and your children closer together as you all draw closer to the Lord.
