Day 1 - Part 1
Today is your first of two "transition in" days. Today eat a piece of fruit in the morning for breakfast (apple, banana, etc), then eat a fruit salad for lunch and a vegetable salad for dinner (no oil or dairy product dressings). Use raw foods only, and organic, if available (nothing steamed or cooked). Drink water and juice when thirsty but cut out all caffeine, alcohol, dairy products, anything carbonated, and any liquid that has "substance" or that can "settle", as we desire to slowly shut down the body’s digestive system over the next several days. For headaches, feel free to medicate with ibuprofen (NOT with acetaminophen, as that actually causes rebounding headaches, and not with Excedrin or Anacin, as both contain caffeine). These headaches only last 2-3 days, and you'll then have broken that addiction for life. Also, we suggest taking liquid or water-soluble vitamin and mineral supplements while fasting, which can be found at most health food, or all-natural food stores.
The day after tomorrow, you will begin to drink only liquids. It is best to drink liquids that are clear and fresh, such as fresh juices, vegetable broths, etc. - but no dairy, coffee, protein, "meat broths" or anything "heavy" or that "settles." You can usually find good fresh juices in the grocery store or the local juice bar. If you’re on the road, feel free to drink anything available - trying, of course, to keep it "light and clear." Drink at least one or two 8 oz. drinks for every "meal," along with water, whenever thirsty. You may also have fresh fruit smoothies. If you wish to prepare for the liquid fast by purchasing some ingredients, here are a few recipes for smoothies that you may enjoy during this fast:
