Welcome Friend, glad you're beginning this thorough course on biblical change, as it relates to the subject of weight loss.
So, let's get started on this first day of the Mentorship Course by reviewing and having a short discussion on the Setting Captives Free Mission Statement.
SCF Mission Statement
Setting Captives Free exists to offer Christ-centered Hope and Freedom to those in the grip of sin through accountability to Bible-based Truth resulting in the true enjoyment of Life in and for the Glory of God.
First of all, the name: Setting Captives Free was chosen from Luke 4:18-19:
We know from this passage of Scripture that the main mission of the Messiah is to "set captives free." He came to break open the prison doors (Psalm 107:10-20) of those who are chained by habitual sin. His death on the cross broke the power of cancelled sin and sets the captives free. This is the reason why our ministry chose this name.
The next phrase is "exists to offer Christ-centered..."
Our ministry needs to be first and foremost "Christ Centered." We do not believe it is possible to "set the world free" apart from Jesus Christ. Their freedom from certain behaviors is not true freedom, unless and until they are taken captive by Christ. Apart from Him there is no freedom. So our method of ministry is to point men and women to Jesus Christ as the Solution to their sin problem.
As mentors, we must be intimately acquainted with and enjoying delightful fellowship with Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "He who the Son sets free will be free indeed" (John 8:36).
