Lord's Table Testimony: Julie Lussier

My name is Julie and I have been set free from my bondage to overeating. I didn’t know I was really in sin until I started this course.

I started being overweight after I got married. I ate as much as my husband even though my activity level was more sedentary. I also turned to food when I was feeling sad and lonely. I felt really bad about myself for being overweight and didn’t like me very much even though my husband loved me no matter what. I tried losing weight on my own without results. I was at my all time high after giving birth to my daughter. I tried a couple diets for a few days or a couple weeks but I had no motivation or desire to stick with it.

Someone mentioned The Lord’s Table at Setting Captives Free and I checked out the website. It took me a few months before registering and going for it. My biggest fear was the suggested eating plan. There’s no way I’d be able to do that.

After the first lesson I felt excited and looked forward to seeing what God would do in my life. I felt that there was hope for me; that things could change but God’s way. Even the eating plan went a lot better than what I expected. Just as long as I kept my focus on God and turning to Him in my times of weakness.

God was slowly but surely doing a great work in me. I was re-learning to place my focus on God alone. To feast at His Table-turning to His word when I needed strength and encouragement. I also was turning to Jesus instead of food when I was feeling lonely and sad and I definitely felt better after being in His presence instead of stuffing myself with sweets. My soul was delighting in God again. I lost weight but more important than that, my relationship with Jesus became closer and more intimate. I have returned to my first love. My prayer last year was to have a closer relationship with Jesus and to lose weight. He answered my prayer through this course. God has set me free from the bondage I was in and to Him I give all of the praise and glory!
