Lord's Table Testimony: Linda

Part of the legacy from my parents was an inappropriate attitude towards food. I was not really overweight until I started to go through puberty in the 5th grade. That year a classmate called me “fatso.” Even though I wasn’t fat (just developing), I bought into that lie. The turn to food for emotional reasons was natural. Although not fat, in my head I was obese. Over the years, that lie became stronger and stronger as I began to fulfill it and gained more and more weight.

14 years ago I felt God leading me to lose weight. I started out pretty good but dropped it after a while and then convinced myself that I was mistaken. I even convinced myself that I just needed to learn to love myself as I was and so I swore off diets and threw out the scales. For the past year I have been asking God for a personal revival and to cleanse me of all that was in the way for a deeper and more powerful relationship with Him. He showed me clearly that I was in disobedience to Him in the area of food control. I began to look at different weight loss programs, dreading having to restrict what I ate.

One night while surfing blogs on the internet I came across the blog of a young woman who casually mentioned that she was doing a course on the "Setting Captives Free.com" website. The name caught my eye and I copied it down to check it out. When I visited the site I knew immediately it was what I was looking for. I knew I was captive to food and that I wanted to be set free from the lies I had believed for so long. I started the course the following week and God has used it to change my life. God has become my companion in this journey to change the lies for His truth. He has answered my prayer for a deeper and more powerful relationship with Him. He has blessed me with Himself. Linda
