A United Front Testimony: Denise

My husband and I believe God guided him to the Setting Captives Free Way of Purity course and through him the Lord guided me to the United Front course. After 28 years of marriage marred by repeated episodes of his infidelity in various ways including pornography and affairs, separation, two times of filing for divorce, countless prayers, failed secular, pastoral and Christian counseling, and a current separation; I had told him to file for divorce by the end of the week or I was filing for it.

My husband then really confessed his sin to me (the first time ever) and told me about the Way of Purity course he had been working on for a couple weeks. My heart was so hard by then, that I look back and wonder that I heard anything he said. As he really talked to me about his behavior and feelings (again for the first time) I heard things I'd prayed to hear. Over the coming days and now months I have heard more and seen things I'd prayed to see.

My husband is transforming before my eyes into a Godly man. He grows in faith and integrity every day. He is currently working toward becoming a mentor for the Way of Purity course at Setting Captives Free.

As I said, I was so hardened with emotional hurt, and fear of more of the same, that day when he confessed to me and opened his heart to me, that I was barely able to tell him I'd put the divorce on hold, let alone start the spouses course at Setting Captives Free (United Front) that he told me about. It took some time for me to come around but I did.

I cried the first time I heard from Melissa, my mentor. The realization that there was someone who had walked a path even remotely like mine and who could understand all the emotions that go with it was such a relief. She was patient and understanding when fears from our marriage relationship history threatened my progress, but at the same time she was firm in stance for what God expected of me. She challenged me, encouraged me and cheered me on as I balked, faltered and progressed.

The Excellent Wife book is excellent. A hard pill for me to swallow at times but Melissa encouraged me to keep going because she had balked at times too but it had all come together in the end. She was so right! I have learned so much about what it means to be a Godly wife with a quiet and gentle spirit, and how to be one.

The Way of Purity course, the United Front course, Melissa, my husband's mentor and all the people behind Setting Captives Free were the life-lines to God and to each other that we needed so badly to save our marriage, our family, our hopes and our dreams, and to develop a new and God pleasing life as individuals and together. I believe we love and respect each other more deeply, we understand each other better, we share more than we ever have before, and real communication is actually happening. I thank the Lord for pointing my husband in the direction of Setting Captives Free, and I thank those there who have touched our lives so deeply.
