Way of Purity Testimony: Tim

My mentor is Terrill Sebastian.
I found myself exposed to pornography and self gratification when I was around 10 years old through the very graphic magazines and movies that my friend’s father hid in his basement which started a 29 year involvement in sin. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior very close to this same time and did not understand fully what it meant to be walking as a Christian. I was raised in the church throughout my childhood but after my parents divorced, when I was 12, I fell deeper into the bondage of sexual impurity. As I went to college, I had completely back-slid from God and sexual immorality was a way of life. I went into the Army and this further solidified my sin nature as I was continually exposed to more and more “normalizing” of sexual immorality.

Approximately seven years ago, I recommitted my life back to Christ but I still had the secret life of pornography and gratifying the lusts of the flesh which I attempted to keep from my wife. I attempted to rid myself of this sin and read several books and prayed almost daily to be relieved of the burning desire of lusting. I was a hypocrite and living a lie by being active in the church but still sinning continually through the internet. I was on my way to becoming pure physically for about six months but was still fighting through a mental war when I started the Biblical studies at Setting Captives Free. From day one, it clicked inside of me the “why” we all need to be free. It is so God can be glorified and not man. I’ve now been truly pure in all aspects for the last two months and I’m not looking back.

It’s only through the shed blood of Jesus Christ that we can be set free from any sin. Setting Captives Free helped me realize why and now I am a saint trying not to sin instead of a sinner trying to become a saint. Thank you Lord Jesus for taking my sins away and that you receive the glory!
