Way of Purity Testimony: Renata

Mentor: Maria Rice. For several years, I was stuck in habitual sin. My whole life was comprised of areas in which habitual sin had a hold on my life, whether it was being selfish and not putting God first throughout my day, or giving into my own desires rather than pursuing His. Even though I had been a genuine Christian for many years, I was still not submitting to God fully in my life. This idea was one that terrified me, and was not appealing at all. After a lot of frustration and cycles in my life where I would sin, repent, feel guilty, vow to not sin again, and then sin once more, I came upon the Setting Captives Free course. I am generally highly skeptical of Christian courses where people claim that their lives have been changed through them, so deciding to do this course was not easy for me. However, something in me compelled to try it, thinking, 'If this doesn't work, I can give up trying to get free from habitual sin.' My desperation and feelings of defeat made me ache for any help, so I began The Way of Purity course. God is so committed to our freedom! As soon as I realized I needed help, and started the course with that attitude, I noticed God was there to help me get through it. He is so determined to show us what true freedom is, that He is willing to provide His strength and motivation for us to get through the course. How wonderful is He! Throughout the course, I learned how to identify sin in my life, repent of it, break from its hold on me, and claim the freedom Christ bought for me on the cross. It is only by God's grace that we can be freed from sin and offer Him the worship He deserves. Now I know that habitual sin can be broken in our lives, praise God! I realize that there is still so much work for God to do in me, to keep on working in different areas in my life that could show His glory more. However, I am living in the bright light of Christ, and am no longer ashamed because of sin. I am free from guilt through God and can be open and honest to those around me about how God is dealing with sin in my life. Through the regular reading of His word, the welcoming of His Spirit into my everyday life, submitting to Him and through the meaningful fellowship that comes with a transparent heart, I am free from captivity and can walk in His light.
