Day 1 - Part 2

The next phrase states, "through accountability..."

Accountability is something that our modern world is losing, as we are taught independence and self-sufficiency. Yet accountability, both to God and with our fellow man, is taught all throughout Scripture (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12; Hebrews 3:13, James 1, etc.).

Here is the reason accountability is important: While I am enslaved to sin, I may study and learn truths that would set me free from sin, but they obviously do no good for me unless I apply them. For instance, let's say a student is falling to late-night cable TV after his family goes to bed, and he comes to the course and is instructed in the Scriptures to "radically amputate" that which causes him to stumble. He has asked you, his mentor, about this, and you've helped him to see the need to cut off all access to his cable, and he promises to do so immediately. The next day you will want to ask him about it, and verify with him that his source of stumbling has been removed. This is accountability. It is one of our foundational truths to freedom (the other two being "radical amputation" and "radical appropriation").

The next phrase of the Mission Statement is "to Bible based truth..."

Scripture is our authority for mentoring. It is God's Word that sets us, and our students, apart from sin.

Each person requesting to be a mentor must have this basic understanding that, if Scripture states something, we must agree with it and submit to it, as Scripture is authoritative in our lives. We are not free to take bits and pieces of God's Word, but neglect the parts that are hard for us to swallow. We must accept and embrace the whole Bible, as God's inerrant Word.

The next phrase is, "resulting in the enjoyment of life..."

As a sinner repents, the end result is enjoyment of life for eternity.

You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence ...
