Day 2 - Part 1
For the next two days, we will discuss the Setting Captives Free doctrinal statement, expound on the reasons why this doctrinal statement is important, and show how it will affect your ministry here as a mentor. We will look at each point individually and, by the end of these two lessons, you should have a good working knowledge of our doctrinal statement, and the Scripture behind it.
1--Our sole authority for counsel given in this ministry is the Word of God, both Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God, and the Bible, the written Word of God. This written Word is comprised of 66 inerrant writings, which holy men of God penned as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
By this statement, we are stating that God's Word is our authority, our only authority, for the counsel that we give in the Setting Captives Free ministry. In other words, we do not use the help of worldly counselors, psychological techniques, or behavior modification methods in the day-to-day mentoring of our students. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 states:
Mentoring with Setting Captives Free is made up of ""teaching, reproofing (or rebuking), correcting, and training" our students. Scripture is profitable for these things. And, it is Scripture which makes the man of God "adequate, equipped for every good work."
Scripture, in its entirety, points to the Person and work of Jesus Christ. He is the Living Word (John 1:1-3) to which the written Word points. God's Word, Jesus Christ, and God's Word, the Bible, are the authority behind our mentoring at Setting Captives Free. As the Holy Spirit, Who is our Counselor and Teacher, applies God's Word to the hearts of your students, you will see godly sorrow over sin, real repentance, and genuine delighting in Jesus Christ. Please be sure that you are using only Scripture to counsel your students ...
