Amputation Alley

We thought it would be fun to show how your fellow course members have decided to "radically amputate" the source of their stumbling, as maybe it would encourage others to consider how they may "cut off" and "pluck out" (Matthew 5:29-30) that which causes them to fall as well.

So here are some pictures and captions that show what people have done to their previous idols; we hope you enjoy these and are encouraged to pursue radical amputation further in your own life...

This is a photo of how I disposed of some of my porn. Your course suggested doing something fun with it, and since I live in town and can't easily burn it, I decided to shred it with my food processor. I had to add a little water for weight.

Hi I'm Thomas,

And I have to say I feel great now. I have to explain that I had been trapped in the sin of pornography and masturbation since I was about 8 years old. I'm now 53 years old - almost 54.

My sin has taken me from magazine to movies to the Internet with its pornography. I have - well had - amassed a sizeable 'collection' of porn on my computer that I downloaded from the Internet - for free (or so I thought). Here is a picture of what over 80+ CDs look like when they are turned into the trash they are.

If I wasn't sure a CD had porn on it - it was destroyed too. I'm not taking chances. I didn't want anyone else getting these by accident - like I did with my first porn magazine - and ruining someone else's life. Thank you Jesus for this opportunity to be free and to share.

Mike, I did indeed put an axe through the TV...here's the after picture. We tried to get the action shot, but the camera was too slow. It felt good, and the noise it made was awesome...haven't missed it a bit!--Steve

I'm a college student who has been addicted to Internet porn for 8 years. Hardly a month ever went by without spending hours on end, on porn sites, and searches. I tried having Internet filters on my computer before, but they weren't effective enough for me, (I would find hundreds of porn sites not blocked by them).

But, now I have Safe Eyes on my computer. It has an optional "whitelisting" feature that can block access to everything online. I'm using the whitelist feature to block 100% of the Internet, (except for SCF.com and a few other clean Christian websites). The Picture is an example of how Safe Eyes even blocks "http://www.elvis.com" on my computer! Because of Safe Eyes Radical Filtering, and God's Grace, I went from 1,000's of pictures every month, to being Totally porn free for 3 whole months! Glory to God!--James

I had access to porn at work. So i quit! Enclosed is a picutre of a draft resignation notice i wrote out.

I wanted to share this photo with you guys. I freed myself of the pornographic movies I had stashed away. It was fun destroying these. It's amazing how many pieces a cassette tape has.

I thought I was rid of everything that caused me to fall. To be sure, I prayed for God's guidance to remove my previous idols.

What happened next amazes me!

I immediately got up, walked over to my music collection, and my hand pulled out a CD full of sexually immoral songs with scantily clothed women on the cover.

Satan is crafty. He was fueling my sexually immoral desires through music. I idolized music and even became a D.J. at parties, spreading sexually immoral music to thousands of listeners.

Thank you for encouraging me to "radically amputate" the sources of my stumbling.

These were discs I either previously used or currently could have used for viewing sexually immoral material. These were shredded tonight. Also the bags contained sexually immoral items.

I have accountability software on my laptop that works well, but I discovered that my iPhone was a chink in my armor, and I used it to view pornography for a period of months after buying it. It was an idol, and I did not want to let it go because of how useful it is, and how much I valued it. But when I realized it was either my iPhone or my soul, I put it under the tire of my car and ran it over. It hurt to see that much money go down the tubes, but I value my soul much more. Even though it has hurt, I am grateful that the Lord is rescuing me from the dark sins of pornography and masturbation. I've finally gotten around to photographing what once was my iPhone.

This is my old 'porn viewing' hard drive after drilling holes through it and snapping up the computer chips on the bottom on top of a ripped up t shirt that I used to associate with self gratification.

Some would say that it is sad to see an expensive hard drive and t-shirt go to waste, but my soul is worth so much more than this trash – God is great
