Dear Physician letter, by The Road Back program

Dear Physician,

One of your patients would like to taper off their psychoactive medication and use The Road Back Program in the process. The Road Back is a 501C3 non-profit organization located in the United States.

This program is divided in two parts with the first being what we call a pre-taper and the second and final part of the program is the reduction of the medication.

Specific supplements are used during the pre-taper and tapering of the drug to help reduce existing medication side effects as well as to help eliminate the possibility of side effects during the taper portion of the program. The supplements used will not compete with the P450 CYP enzymes used to metabolize psychoactive medication and are formulated to provide anxiety and insomnia relief, as well as all other common withdrawal side effects. The Road Back Program and their officers do not manufacturer or sell the supplements used.

The second part of the program is the reduction of the medication. In 1999, we issued guidance for medication reduction and in 2011; most drug companies now urge the patient and physician to adhere to this approach. Reduce the medication gradually and if withdrawal side effects begin, go back to the last dosage where the patient was doing well, stabilize the patient, then reduce the medication slower as the reduction is resumed.

We urge the patient to work with their prescribing physician throughout this process and to also get a full physical before starting the withdrawal process. This allows the patient and physician to know, if symptoms begin during the process, it is a withdrawal symptom and not an undetected medical condition.

The Road Back will not be giving your patient medical advice but will only advise your patient on which nutritional supplements to use while doing the program. Our assistance to your patient is free of charge.
