Hello! Please do continue to follow the plan outlined in the first three installments - changing the way you express yourself in writing and in the spoken word, so that you confessions reflect your new life, and beginning to sound more like God's man.
Let's go forward with the transformation...........
Now you and I both know that we are not justified before God by adherence to the law, but we are justified by our faith in Christ...so says God's word in the New Testament. But the command in Deuteronomy is in strong enough words for us to think about it, right? And we do want the way we live to reflect our salvation, our life in Christ. Let's look at another scripture:
At first glance, that would seem to have nothing to do with what we're talking about. Even the opposite. But think about this truth "man looks at the outward appearance" - so how we appear is how others judge us. But you say, "I'm not to worry about that." Well, not much, because we are to care what God thinks. However, in your old ways, part of "the look" was intended to attract other men, was it not? Also, you too are a man, right? Therefore, how you think of yourself is determined at least in part by your appearance. So why not adjust that appearance to a more manly look?
Here is the type of change that I believe would do that for you.
- Never dress sexy - don't wear tight pants or tight shirts. You're not in a beauty contest now, you're attempting to live a new and different way.
- Avoid wearing t-shirts or the like except as an undergarment
- Shirts should be loose fitting, not tailored and not knit material. Button up the front. Always button them completely except at the very top button (the collar). And shirts should have collars. It's a good idea to wear an undershirt too; thereby avoiding showing too much of your physique outline. Wear solids, plaids or stripes. Nothing flowery or with designs like Fleur de lis or paisley. You know what I'm talking about. Colors? Avoid pinks and purples.
- Pants - wear long ones, all the way to your shoes. No shorts. Repeat - No shorts. No peddle pushers. No toreadors. No flairs. No hipsters. No tight legs or butts. Jeans are preferred...especially Wranglers or Levis. Relaxed fit. If the homosexual community has been wearing chino's then stop that. You get the idea. Colors? Only solids - blue, black, khaki. Skip the others.
- Jewelry. Avoid it! Wear only a wedding ring and a manly wrist watch. Nothing else. Nothing around your neck. Nothing. Have a cross? Carry it in your pocket. No bracelets unless you must have one for emergency medical i.d. Make sure that your wrist watch is plain and has a tight-fitting band. Avoid watchbands that dangle. Keep away from flashy watches.
- No make-up ever! None! NOT!
- Keep your fingernails short...and never shiny.
- No perfume. Not even aftershave. If you can find it, use bath soap and shampoo that has no fragrance. Yes, I know that many heterosexual men use aftershave... but to avoid splitting hairs and getting you into danger, I say "stay away from fragrances."
- If you have body piercings anywhere...stop wearing anything in those holes. Stop! You're not a pirate... you're a Christian man. A servant of Christ. Nothing we do should say "look at me."
- Tattoos. If you have a rose on an indecent part of your anatomy, or you have any other "telling" marks of "art" - consider having them removed. At least keep them covered. I'm not talking about every tattoo known to man - you know the ones. They come from your old life. If we're rejecting that life, we should not carry around the mark of sin. You may have been proud of such a picture or emblem when it was inked, but no more.
- Hair...if Butch is the in-thing in the homosexual community, then let your hair grow and get sideburns and a pompadour. Look around. You'll know what's right.
- If you have any clothing that could be described as "an outfit", trash it! Men don't wear outfits.
- Shoes - no more rainbows! Get rid of the colors, the sandals, the low-cuts, whatever. And buy white jogging shoes, the heavy kind. For dress..wear wingtips or other manly style, heavy shoe. Avoid loafers. No hushpuppies! No boots.
- Underwear. Cotton full-rise briefs. Or plain cotton full-rise, loose boxers. Nothing fancy. Nothing too tight. No colors. No bikini's. No thongs. You know what I'm talking about.
That was a long list. Did I miss anything? If I did, then you know what to do.
See how this works? It's easy too. It might initially be expensive...but not hard to do. Suggestion here is that, today, you talk to God, dedicating your body and your appearance to Him as a living sacrifice and then make a list of things you need to do to conform to this new look - the look that says, "I belong to Jesus. No more do I belong to other men."
Again, the objective is not to live with a set of rules, of do's and don'ts as if we were under the law; don't view the above suggestions as "rules to be right with God". Rather, view them as ways to dress and walk and talk like a man of God, not a man of other men.
Put your own imagination to work here to find other ways to conform to a more heterosexual appearance.
Now, from time to time, our culture changes. And that means you would adjust your appearance accordingly. Sound silly or irrelevant? I think not - if you were in the habit of dressing, grooming and adorning yourself in the homosexual style - which also changes with the world, then you would do pretty much the same type of changes in your new life, right? only - changes in the other direction.
Exceptions: Christians do not always follow trends in dress and appearance if those styles go in a bad direction. Best example I can think of at the moment would have been when all the young teen girls were dressing like Britney Spears during her midriff/hipster days. It was inappropriate to imitate her, but sadly many girls did. So use good judgment about your appearance, while keeping it in the heterosexual mode.
Have I given you a bunch of new laws today? No. But I gave you what I have...my best counsel on how to change your appearance toward one more manly and Christ like.
